Strong Storm with Hail and Floods Hits Buenos Aires

A strong storm with rain, hail, and floods hit Buenos Aires City and extensive areas of the Metropolitan Area (AMBA) on Tuesday, following a day marked by extreme heat and a felt temperature of 34 degrees. The incident once again highlighted the AMBA's vulnerability to intense weather phenomena, which are becoming increasingly frequent during periods of high temperatures.

According to the National Meteorological Service, the heaviest rainfall was recorded in the neighborhoods of Colegiales, Villa Urquiza, Balvanera, Constitución, Monserrat, Villa Crespo, and Liniers. The storm also extended to the south, north, and west of Greater Buenos Aires, where flooded streets and traffic complications were reported.

In many areas of the AMBA, there was a heavy hailstorm accompanied by torrential rain in short periods. As a result of the storm front's passage, the temperature plummeted: the thermometer dropped to 22 degrees, providing immediate relief after a day of intense heat that began with readings close to 30 degrees and high humidity.

One of the hardest-hit points was the Unicenter shopping mall, located in the northern part of the urban area, where water leaks were reported on the third-floor walls due to persistent rains. Images from inside the shopping mall quickly circulated on social media, causing concern among merchants and customers, although no injuries were reported.

Authorities recommend driving with caution, avoiding flooded areas, and staying informed through official channels for possible weather alerts.
